The project entitled TOPOCLIM-EWS – Topological Insights for Hydroclimatic Extremes and Early Warning Signals, to be conducted by Dr. İsmail Güzel under the academic supervision of our faculty member Prof. Dr. Ceylan Yozgatlıgil, has been awarded funding under the European Union’s Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships – Global Fellowships programme.
The project, funded under Grant Agreement No. 101271995, will combine topological data analysis, nonlinear time-series methods and machine learning to develop a next-generation framework for detecting early warning signals of hydroclimatic extremes. Focusing particularly on droughts and floods, the research will investigate complex structural and regime changes that conventional approaches may fail to identify. Its methodological contributions will include two-parameter CROCKER plots and multi-scale Mapper representations, with the ultimate aim of producing open, transferable and operationally useful early-warning indicators.
